What is love?

Today, I was going through an old notebook that had some sermon notes in it. One of the sermons I had written down was from my youth pastor, Bro. Ricky Brown, that talked about what love is. He said that love is:
Looking past others' faults
Others first
Vicarious. (being able to take the blame for someone)
Enduring. (or even encouraging someone)

I strongly believe in this definition of love. All of these describe the love that God commands for us to have for one another in 1 John 3:10 (KJV): "In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother." Reading that verse again sounds a little harsh, but true. What good is the love of God if it can't be passed along to others? We need to love our brothers (in Christ) and always share the love of God with them. We also need to share the love of God with those around us who may not be our brothers, but are our neighbors.

The bottom line of Bro. Ricky's sermon that night was that love is action. It is something that we choose to do on a daily basis, not just something we feel. I think we all need to take a good look at how we love others and strive to love our brothers and sisters as Jesus does.
